Ruff
Rhyme
Rrecords
presents
its
artist
Slimm
Goines,
one
of
their
hip
hop
artist
making
moves
in
the
area,
and
performing
at
various
cities.
Slim
Goines
got
that
laid
back
style
that
will
make
your
mind
go
wild.
Check
out
what
he
has
to
say
on
rhythmplaza.com.
Rhythmplaza.com:
Where
are
you
originally
from?
Slimm
Goines:
I'm
from
Fairmont
Heights,
MD.
It's
a
small
town
in
PG
County,
on
the
border
of
Maryland
and
DC.
Rhythmplaza.com:
When
and
why
did
you
start
using
the
Slimm
Goines?
Slimm
Goines:
I
started
using
the
name
on
my
21st
birthday.
I
used
to
go
by
the
name
Baby
Grand.
When
I
turned
21,
I
decided
I
couldn't
be
a
Baby
anymore.
It's
a
hybrid
of
the
names
of
my
two
favorite
authors,
Iceberg
Slim
and
Donald
Goines.
The
full
name
is
Slimm
Goines,
the
Scribe.
Rhythmplaza.com:
Who
was
inspirational
to
you
when
you
were
coming
up?
Slimm
Goines:
Rakim
is
my
hero.
I
like
alot
of
MC's--Kane,
Slick
Rick,
Kool
G.
Rap
but
as
far
as
who
inspired
me,
Rakim
and
the
Furious
5.
Rhythmplaza.com:
When
did
you
first
get
into
the
music
game?
Slimm
Goines:
I
started
writing
rhymes
when
I
was
11,
but
It
wasn't
until
I
hooked
up
with
Nard
and
Ruff
Rhyme
Records
that
I
started
getting
serious.
I
put
it
down
in
the
studio
for
the
first
time
in
'93.
I
released
my
first
single,
Insomnia
b/w
The
Other
Man,
in
'98.
Rhythmplaza.com:
When
did
you
get
your
first
opportunity
to
showcase
your
talent?
Slimm
Goines:
As
part
of
the
group
MAGNUM,
I
did
a
high
school
talent
show
in
'92.
Rhythmplaza.com:
What
does
rap
music
mean
to
you?
Where
is
it
headed?
Slimm
Goines:
Rap
music
and
hip
hop
culture
mean
the
world
to
me.
Hip
hop
is
my
religion.
As
far
as
where
it's
going,
as
has
always
been
the
case,
that
depends
on
the
underground.
We
keep
it
alive.
When
it's
getting
stale,
we
make
it
fresh
again.
We
are
the
standard
bearers.
Hip
hop
will
live
for
ever
as
long
as
that
underground
river
keeps
flowin'.
Rhythmplaza.com:
What’s
up
with
the
new
album?
Slimm
Goines:
The
new
album
will
be
called
Independent
Thought.
It's
going
to
go
places,
creative
places,
that
an
EP
like
Notes
From
The
Scribe
just
couldn't.
N.F.T.S.
was
just
a
glimps
of
what
I
can
do.
"I.T."
will
hit
you
with
the
full
force
like
Bolegged
Lou.
Know
dat!
Rhythmplaza.com:
What
do
you
like
to
do
when
you
are
not
rapping?
Slimm
Goines:
I
like
to
read,
drink
coffee,
spend
time
with
friends,
and
organize
to
overthrow
this
outdated
capitalist
system
and
replace
it
with
a
system
based
on
human
need.
Rhythmplaza.com:
What
projects
are
you
currently
working
on?
Slimm
Goines:
In
addition
to
my
own
Independent
Thought
project,
I'm
working
on
joints
for
the
Realest
in
DC
comp.,
the
Underground
Nationwide
comp.,
and
the
Behind
the
Boards
compilation
as
well
as
doing
guest
appearances
on
upcoming
albums
by
my
label
mates Black
Sun,
Three-Sixty and
Universal
Live.
Rhythmplaza.com:
What
does
music
mean
to
you?
Slimm
Goines:
That's
a
tough
one.
Music
is
many
things
to
me.
It's
the
energy
to
get
motivated
and
get
things
done.
It's
the
sollace
in
the
storm
of
everyday
life.
It's
the
sound
of
resistance
and
struggle.
Music
is
simply
the
world's
most
perfect
art
form.
Rhythmplaza.com:
How
long
have
you
seriously
been
involved
in
the
music
industry?
Slimm
Goines:
About
6
years.
Rhythmplaza.com:
What
advice
would
you
give
to
some
of
the
up
and
coming
rap
artists
in
the
DC
area?
Slimm
Goines:
Stay
on
the
course!
We
don't
get
the
props
that
the
rest
of
the
country
gets,
but
you
can't
quit.
It's
like
KK
Rockwell
said
in
the
classic
movie
Wild
Style,
"We've
lost
this
battle,
but
the
war,
we'll
win."
The
future
is
ours!
CAAAN
YOU
DIG
IIIIIT!!!
Rhythmplaza.com:
Tell
us
about
the
new
project
that
you
have
out?
Slimm
Goines:
What
I've
got
out
now
is
"Notes
From
the
Scribe".
It's
a
seven
song
EP.
It's
to
introduce
the
world
to
the
Legend
of
Slimm
Goines.
Folks
should
check
it
out
at
http://www.ruffrhymerecords.com.
There's
something
on
there
for
everybody.
You
won't
be
sorry.
Rhythmplaza.com:
Who
would
you
like
to
leave
a
shout
out
too?
Slimm
Goines:
Big
ups
to
Big
Poppa
Nard
and
the
rest
of
my
Ruff
Rhyme
Fam:
Black
Sun,
360,
Universal
Live.
My
best
friend
and
partner
in
adventure
Susan
Doran.
My
little
sister
Star.
The
whole
Smith
family.
The
whole
Thompson
family.
The
International
Socialist
Organization.
The
Campaign
to
End
the
Death
Penalty.
All
Redskin
fans
world
wide.
This
is
Big
Slimm,
the
Scribe,
and
I'm
out.
One
love.
